[Docutils-develop] rst2chunkedhtml … status?

Hi,

does anybody know what’s the status of rst2chunkedhtml?

I would like to work on making proper rst2epub to be
eventually included into docutils, and in order to be lazy (“The
three principal virtues of a programmer are Laziness, Impatience,
and Hubris”) I was trying to find whether somebody did what seems
to me the most difficult thing: how to split a document
into separate sections and spit out individual HTML
subdocuments. rst2chunkedhtml seems to be an ideal candidate for
that (perhaps even with addition of some metadata it could be
even `a replacement for EPub`_, but that's another story not
completely relevant here).

It seems that the ChunkedHTMLWriter class is fatally dependent on
the existence of set_external_ids() on the writer. Is there some
equivalent in the current codetree, or I would have to patch all
writers with it (or is there some base class, which is subclassed
by all writers)?

Anybody knows more about this? Any more ideas? Any other way
how to save myself from working?
